I ended up deciding it would simply be easiest for everyone if I just posted my thoughts.
Please note these are my personal thoughts and do not represent an official company line in any way. I've ordered them from (10) being least important of things on this list to (1) being most important of things on this list. Again, let me stress that this is my personal set of preferences and other people may differ in their analysis.
(10) Aesthetics - Frankly, I just like the PT3 look better. HM has improved over the last couple of years but I still think we're ahead here. But I completely understand that others might have differing opinions here.
(9) Ease of Use - I do a lot with the database directly on occasion and I find our database much, much easier to navigate. I also find PT3 generally more easy to navigate as well.
(8) Support - Even I need to ask the developers questions every now and then and I love working with these guys. I'd like to think I'm an asset too :)
(7) Full Multi-Currency support - This matters less directly for me right now but I can easily see it becoming a concern as Euro tables become more popular. Our multi-currency
support uses spot prices from the day in question and can convert to anything you want. So if I played a session in Euros today and a session in Euros 6 months from now they can each be converted at the Euro to Dollar conversion rate at the time they were played - HM doesn't do that, there's one global conversion value that applies universally. In my eyes, that's a clearly inferior implementation. And for anybody whose home currency isn't USD, EUR or GBP is just out of luck using HEM.
(6) Rush HUD - I wouldn't have made it through Rush Week without it; I love my Rush HUD. It works like a charm.
(5) Fast manual import speed - I like being able to, when needed, import half a million hands in a couple of hours at the outside. Waiting a whole lot longer would definitely not be preferable.
(4) Multiple, tabbed configurable HUD popup windows - I've done some really great things with these - two new popups I've built will be released shortly when I update my HUD thread. I couldn't do anything like it with HM. (If you want a screenshot of it, shoot me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll gladly ship it to you.)
(3) Exporting individual HUD groups - This makes life a lot easier if you build a popup to share or build it in one profile and want it elsewhere. Probably related here is the ability to convert a custom stat from one stat section to another without which this feature would be a lot less useful.
(2) Custom Reports - These are huge for me - you can ask almost any question you can imagine with them, if you are willing to delve deeply enough. A couple of days ago, in discussions with a friend, we wanted to know with what hand strengths will a player cbet the flop and turn after having attempted to steal the blinds, then call a turn check/raise when the flop was two tone and was hemi-connected (e.g. 892), and the turn was an ace. We needed a big database to get the samples on, but it turned out that in the sample (162 turn cbets, 70 showdowns reached) 7 times the turn cbettor called the check/raise with a single pair less than top pair with no residual draw. Given that we were expecting an extremely strong range, this was a very surprising result! The entire report took me about 5 minutes to set up (as I have a general "what is his hand strength on the turn" report already built).
(1) Custom Stats - This feature alone would be enough to get me to use PT3. If I can envision a way to build it, I can build it, and for almost all of them, they can go in the HUD. Lately I've switched from "any 4-bet" to "4-bet having made the first raise preflop" - a big and useful change in my eyes. Without custom stats, I would've been stuck. Custom stats can also be extremely useful for building specific custom reports. I've got custom stats so that I can make custom reports to group hands by texture so that I can look at all boards where the flop is paired together, for example. Custom stats also let you color one stat by the value of any other stat - a huge benefit which lets you effectively double the stats shown on your display while at the same time keeping the clutter way down. I have literally no idea how I'd want to set up my HUD without it - it would be a jumbled mess.
I'm sure there are other features that other people would put in their top 10 that I don't have here. Coloring one stat by another might well count as its own, there's the database backup/restore, we have the housekeeping functions that HM is only starting to add - there are plenty more, but I think I'd put these as my top 10.
I hope this helps and if you want to discuss my personal preferences with me further, please feel free to shoot me a PM.
