Old PC ---> New PC

Postby LondonCardPlayer » Thu Apr 22, 2010 12:09 pm

My old PC stopped working the other day, and I need to get stuff off the old HDD's to transfer to my new PC when it arrives. The HDD's are going to be put into my brothers PC and I will take whatever I need via USB Flash Drive, and then move it to my new PC.

My question is, what do I need to move in regards to PT3 from the old PC to the new one?

I know I'll have to move the PT3 program, but will this move all my imported hand histories as well? Or do I also have to move the Postgre stuff as well. Can someone tell me all the things I need to move in order to make PT3 run as it did on my old PC without me having to import 70,000+ hands all over again.

Thanks.

Probably the easiest thing to do will be to install PT3 fresh on your new computer and just copy the config files across: PT3 Backup Files.

Once you've done that, it will probably be easier to copy the hand history files across from the PokerTracker 3\Processed folder and do a Manual Import, rather than trying to copy the postgres databases across directly.
If you have a lot of separate databases or don't have all of your hand histories then it may be possible to recover the databases from the PostgreSQL\Data folder, but that can depend on the state the database was in when your computer died, and what manner of death it had.

It was only the Power Unit on the Old PC that went, but it was old anyway, so decided to get a new one. So everything in the HDD's should be fine, but haven't checked them yet.

I think I might have deleted files from the processed files folder, just to free up some space on my PC before it died, so I might have to run a recovery program on that. And I only had the 1 database, so there shouldn't be much to do there.

I'll try to sort it, if I have any more problems, I'll post again.

Thanks again.
