Networking Postgresql on Mac

Hi,

I'm hoping to network my db between my iMac and my Macbook - the instructions here:http://www.pokertracker.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=4638 appear to be written for Windows, and I can't seem to find the pg_hba.conf file. Does anyone know where it might be?

It's in /Library/PostgreSQL/8.4/data/ - the other steps are pretty much the same but you will likely have permissions issues editing the file. See here under how to view/change permissions in Finder to set the folder so that you can view and edit it.

...and if that directory doesn't exist? Should I reinstall?

No, it exists just make sure you are looking in the right place. There is a system-wide /Library folder that is entirely different from the user-specific ~/Library folders. If you have postgres running correctly on your machine then that folder is definitely there.

Ok, thanks, I found it, followed the instructions to edit the two conf files... and now I seem to have broken my PostgreSQL server.

It either isn't running or doesn't seem to be listening. PT3 can't connect, and I can't connect through the pgAdmin console... halp?

Use Applications/Utilities/Console to watch the error messages as you restart it. Alternatively you can look at the logs in /Library/PostgreSQL 8.4/data/pg_log . (You will need a privilege elevated Finder to see into that folder just like you did to edit the config files.)

Could you also post the contents of the last file or two in the pg_log folder that Tarix mentioned? Those will be helpful.

After seeing this, I changed the permissions on the hba.conf file and PT3 immediately worked.
