Transporting database questions

Postby mikedallas23 » Sat Jul 17, 2010 7:59 am

I will be purchasing a new computer soon and will have to transfer my PT3 database.

1) What is the most efficient way of transferring a database of approx 1.5 million hands? If I use a memory stick how big of one am I likely to need?

2) Is there a way to only transfer hands from 2010?

(1) Easiest is to use our backup function from within PT3, see the Tutorial: Backup and Restore. The database should shrink down pretty well, I don't think the zip file will be more than a gig or two for you, but I haven't done extensive testing on the compression rates.

(2) For that the easiest thing to do would be to export just hands from 2010 then compress the output and move the files and reimport into a new database. (Or create the new database on your machine first, then backup as per step (1), whichever is easier for you.)
